Transferring in to the Psychology Program
The Psychology Undergraduate Program admits students who transfer to
the University of Maryland from another institution (external transfers)
and students currently enrolled at the University of Maryland who want
to change majors (internal transfers). There is no credit limit for
admission to the major. However, transfer students must complete the
Entrance Requirements for Transfer Students BEFORE submitting an
application to the major.

Students who have completed the Entrance Requirements Students must
attend mandatory Psychology Advising and a Academic Planning Session
offered by BSOS Advising.
When you complete this process, turn in both the academic plan and the
application to the major to BSOS Advising Office, 2147 Tydings Hall.
BSOS Advising will send you an email notifying you of your status.
Please note that this will take a few weeks. You will officially become
a Psychology major the following semester.
If you've done all this but still cannot register for classes, contact
a Psychology Department Advisor.
Requirements for double majoring in Psychology are currently under review.

Appeals for Exception to Psychology Entrance Requirements
Students who wish to request an exception to the Admission Policy for the Psychology Major should make an appointment with a Psychology Advisor in 1107 Biology -Psychology Building and plan to submit an "Appeal for Exception to Policy for Admission to a Limited Enrollment Program" form.

A grant proposal submitted by NACS faculty for a functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging facility on campus has been funded by the National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentation Program. This facility will substantially enhance our ability to conduct cutting edge research in human neuroscience and cognitive science. NACS faculty members come from a variety of departments including Bioengineering, Hearing and Speech, Human Development, Kinesiology, Linguistics, Psychology, and others.
The Banneker-Key Scholarship is the most prestigious and competitive scholarship that the University offers to incoming freshmen. The top tier of awards supplies the full cost of tuition, fees and room and board coupled with a book allowance for four years. The Psychology Department has 9 Banneker-Key Scholars among the incoming freshman class. This raises the total number of Banneker-Key Scholars in the departmenr to 33, more than 1/3 of the 95 Banneker-Key Scholars in all of BSOS.
